Bridge Resource Management (BRM)

Welcome to your Bridge Resource Management (Online) Course.

This course was designed to to check that Bridge Officers are competent in managing the Bridge effectively, particularly as part of a team. There are several factors involved in a fully compliant BRM Course and as such the following areas are included:

  • Watchkeeping Principles
  • Bridge Team Communication
  • Situational Awareness
  • Human Factors
  • Stress and Fatigue
  • Case Studies
  • Simulated Crisis Management
  • Emergency Drills
  • Search and Rescue
  • Practical Scenarios in a Simulated Environment

The course is for deck officers, requirements related to leadership, teamwork and managerial skills have been added. Assertiveness training for all seafarers has also been included, given its importance not only for those who have to direct operations but also for those in lower grades who may have to communicate on safety matters with senior officers, the master and/or shore personnel.

The course takes between 32 and 40 hours to complete on average. It can be started and stopped as required as progress is continuously saved.

Regardless of when or where previous BRM training has taken place, this course is designed to consolidate knowledge.
