It is necessary for you to become familiar with the operation of the ECDIS set, particularly with the basic navigational functions, menu structure and important navigational functions. Take your time reviewing the hot spots on the ACAT and then on your system reviewing the key menus. Refresh yourself on the basics first – Do not power down by simply turning off at the plug! That could lead to loss of data, and the possibility that the system may not restart. It may also cause disc fragmentation and cause the system to run slower such as the below example of a fragmented hard drive. Has your ECDIS appeared to slow down over time?
